3RD CLASS........TIME IS DEFINITELY FLYING FAST!!!!!!!
geo is becoming even more fun!!!
Tuesday's class was one that I would never forget as it dealt with an important topic which was always unclear to me as I did my further research. During this class, I had felt very challenged as I was clearly unaware of the topic but this experience is one which I hold very dear and would share my new found knowledge with my students if when the topic arises.
The class was very stimulating for me as I was able to learn and grasp something very important to geography, at the beginning of the class Dr.Babb posed a very unknown question to the class which was very different for me because I never thought to interpret this question before. This question would have probably crossed me during my academic studies before but now with the help of Dr.babb and the few explanations of my classmates I am able to understand if snow can exist on the equator.
One of my team members was absent that day so my other team member and I rallied our answer to No and during the three-hour period we did few calculations were learned about environmental and adiabatic lapse rate, very new to us thus making us change our answer to a Yes due to the helpful explanations. This helped us understand the question even more and was able to interpret it in a meaningful and profound way. After calculating we told to use a map to finish, unfortunately, we were unable to finish but the map was of great use to the question as it gave the correct answer. With the use of the map also we were able to place the contributing factors we did at the beginning to understand the mind-boggling question.
Strangely I was able to understand something unaware to me and I am willing to impart this such knowledge to my students in time to come. This was my AHA moment in the classroom, maybe boring to others, BUT this class taught me something even newer than the classes of which is the importance of listening, thinking and interpretation, I was able to stretch my thought beyond the original content.
The team building exercise “ZIP, ZAP,ZOP” was extremely fun and very useful in the classroom, new strategies are definitely being learnt and will be put to good use.
Coming to the end of the class Dr.Babb also showed us the uneven distribution of light on the earth, in association with the tilt and seasons time, using the globe. I was familiar with it from before as one of the colleagues had taught it during practicum, thus explaining it very well made it even clearer. I also believe the use of the globe is very important in the classroom.
Classes have been very stimulating for me and I will continue to accept various ways to use strategies in the classroom and stretch my thoughts beyond the original content for the benefit of my students.
now that it was explained yes to answer your question. it can snow anywhere as long as the conditions are right.
